I did about 5 miles on the eliptical about a week and a half ago, as my last run (with team texarkana) seemed to have yielded some sort of knee ligament type injury pain...
So I was gonna rrst up for a week, then, last satrday (a week from tomorrow) my beautiful daughter poked me in the eye with her razor sharp 2.5 year old nails... A cornea abrasion and infection ensued, so needless to say, I have been on a 2 week rest period while both hurt parts of my body heal. Maybe I'll run/ EM tonight or tomorrow, to ease back into things.
PS: I'm awfully proud of my brother! Keep up the good work, Phil!!
This is a blog about my adventures in running. i know that people dont like to hear others talk on and on about their running conquests, so now i can express my views to an audience that is not captive. My goal: to run a marathon within the year. Here's to achieving your goals, especially for those who say you can't.

team texarkana
About to do my first Sun AM slow run with team texarkana, from Christus St Michael over to Spring Lake Park, which I think is 5 miles. This should be fun.
I hope more people show up today, as opposed to the 3 cyclists that showed up last time I came to run on a saturday, or else I may have just gotten a cool t-shirt out of the deal. We'll see. Still got 12 minutes.
I had a blast runnin with phil last weekend. Downtown vicksburg is pretty nice place to run. Maybe next year I can do the run through history with him.
I noticed that many people within my social network have a negative view towards running, as a hobby and lifestyle. I don't want their negativity to rub off on me, so I "gotta give them haters plenty of space".
Ok loyal blog readers, I'm about to run, so ya'll keep up the good work!

tough, wierd run today
Ok, after a 6 day haitus of running (I did elliptcal mon and tuesday tho) I thought I'd get out there for a slow 5 mile run.
Man did I struggle. I'll blame the heat and humidity of me running at 1:00 PM in texas in mid july! So my pace was extra slow; HOWEVER, I did somehow manage to log a PB today, 10:10 mile (4 seconds better than my old PB) so that was refreshing and motivating.
Was tough today, but I'm glad I did it. Oh yeah, I just mailed my yearly dues to join team texarkana. We meet 4 times a week to run (I'll only make the weekend runs)
I'll let ya'll know more about it as I learn. Sounds fun.
Nike said I burnt 842 calories, time to go celebrate my PB with a pb&j!

cross training is back
Dunno how accurate the nordick track E5 ellliptical trainer is, but it tells me I've vaporized 600 calories tonight, in 30 some odd minutes... So that, paired with the few pushups and curls I did, may have helped put a dent in the poppyseed chicken casserole I had for supper.
It was some kinda hot in the garage too, and I was a sweaty beast cow too. It was great! Lookin forward to some more cross training between runs.
Thanks to anyone who cares enough to read my blog!

that time of year again
Ok, weighed in today at 227 lbs again... Time to instill my mid summer abstaining of alcohol til labor day weekend. Dern. Ran too much to not make any progress.
That's ok though. Just gotta stay diligent and positive. Also, now that the boxes are gone from my garage, I can resume crosstraining between run days on the elliptical... So that should help.
Talk to ya'll next time

oh yeah, even my math is slow, ha
Turns out, my 8.1 miles today, put me one mile over my July goal of 25 miles! (18 miles last week + 8 miles today = 26 miles total)
That's pretty cool, now all my miles for the month are for good measure (but they won't effect my august or september goals of 35 and 45 miles per month, respectively) they will, though, count towards my 105 mile goal for the 3 month period!
That's great! I love setting and attaining my goals. I guess now, the next quarter "D-90-S program" I'll have to recalculate my mileage goals. What a good day!

on the road again
It's been a while since my last good long run (which I remind you is VERY slow) so I set out to do just that this morning- to spend over an hour on the road again.
Only thing is: I left my nike chip at home on the dresser. Oops. No matter. it actually was a blessing in disguise, because I was set out to do 6 miles on the long, flat, visually unstimulating levee at the wright pattman lake again.
Instead, I ran the stretch of the levee where I could see the water, fishermen, boats, wildlife, etc., then turned down the ramp towards the small airport runway, then back (towards where I parked, this time with the levee above me and on my right). At the spillway of the levee, where the catfishermen congregate, there is a series of hills to climb, which will bring me back to the parking lot the ol tacoma sat. I did this 3 times, with each lap equal to 2.7 miles, brining my total distance traveled to 8.1 miles.
I can live with that. Now: on to breakfast!!!

Independance Day Observed
This morning, for breakfast, we went to IHOP and let's just say I practiced poor discipline. I got the cream cheese filled french toast and bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns.
Overwhelmed with guilt, when the kids and kellie took a nap, I took advantage of the free time and went on a good long run.
I set my ipod to measure me out a distance of 10 K, and I ran down the 3 mile levee at the wright pattman lake. I'm not sure if the nike chip is calabrated well, but it said I went about 12 KM, which was 7.8 miles, I had to walk a few legs, so ima round down and record it was 7 miles total.

the birth of a motto
HYIC!!
U'll have to ask me what it stands for!
Also, I ran 5 miles today in an hour 3 minutes. Pretty excited to be ahead of schedule on reachin my 25 mile goal for july.
Time to eat, cut, paint, and go see some fireworks!
Have a good holiday! And good job phil on the 5K today!!

first run since i set my 25 mile goal for july
Had a great run today. Set the nike+ chip for 2.75 miles at the wright pattman lake, ran that and walked an additional .25 miles to cool down. Ipod said I incinerated 430 calories.
I went slow as usual, prolly cause I was bogged down by my early supper, mainly. I just ran down by the north shore picnic area, along the bank, and down a section of windy road.
I really enjoyed it, and am glad I got a head start

Julio Uno (July 1st for u non-texarkanians) = day 1 of "D90S"
Well then, day one is under way! I achieved my goal of 100 push ups today (34 in the AM, 33 at noon, and 33 in the PM)
Now the hard part. Runnin 2 point somethin' miles this afternoon. "Why is that the hard part?", you're asking yourself. The answer is simple. A) it's already 645 and kel isn't home, B) I haven't found a well lit place to run in the community of Libery Eylau "pronounced eye-low" C) I'm runnin low on boxers, and have to ration the ones I have before laundry day D) almost supper time E) we are painting the kid's playroom tonight.
My solution to the challenge? Pick up burger king and let the family eat while I get a quick mile in.

initial weigh in
My extreme A.D.D. Prevented me from waiting until tomorrow to weigh myself.
Alas, I am 227.5 lbs (fully clothed) so I am going to round down to nearest lb to 227 for the start of the D90S program. My goal weight in 3 month's time = 218 lbs. Let's see if I can beat that!
Also: good luck to my brother Phil, runnin his first 5-K on the third!
See ya'll on my next update

last rest day in june
Pretty excited about running tomorrow. The way I figure it, I need to average 6.25 miles a week to get to 25 miles in july.
I think I'll shoot for 3 miles tomorrow and and another 3.25 on my friday off. I may rest saturday, but log some bonus travel Sunday, to kind of get a head start.
I posted a 3 month graph on my wall, to display the correlation of my weight (logged in red ink), the miles I run each day or wk (logged in green ink, and the number of pushups I do, (logged in black ink)
I hypothesis that the higher my green and black lines get, the lower my red line will be.
I'm gonna weigh in tomorrow. I hope I'm below 230...

july goal
Ok, since this is from my blackberry, ima make this short and sweet.
My july goal (the beginning of my D90S program-ripoff, I know) is to run 25 miles in july, do 1500 push ups, and lose 2 lbs... Anything I do more than that will be bonus miles, which may or may not accrue to my 3 month total goals of 105 miles, 7500 push ups and 9 lbs lost.
I'll try to keep you posted. See, I'm just trying to make baby steps. That's how you eat an elephant: one bite at a time!!

USA advances today
I had a good run today. not too hard, not too terribly easy (for the standards of us heavy fellas).
to make a long story short, i felt pretty guilty about the crap supper i ate which consisted of 2 burritos from Taco Bell and 2 awesome chocolate chip cookies that are free in my hotel lobby. (towne place suites in texarkana, tx is highly recommended for your efficiency stay needs)
i ran 2 miles today and walked another half mile. i didnt struggle breathing or anything, but i did get a PB though. my 2 miles today was ran in 20'33" which would average a 10'17" mile. not too shabby, and i'll take it every time. i really am growing to love running and challenging myself.
dude, i sweat A LOT! i mean, it must be a pint or more of sweat rolling off me. feels pretty great. the last time i exerted myself like this was 1998, when i was tryin' my damndest to gain as much weight as i could and barely topped 205 lbs. stupid football coach.....
keep runnin' hard fellas, and don't be scared to go slow.

First Blog
Hello to anyone who is interested enough to hear my views and opinions.
Here's a little background: i graduated High School at 210 lbs sopping wet; finished up college at 250 (+); went on my honeymoon about 264 lbs. i'm 5'11" on my tip toes.. needless to say i was a heavy fellow.
a few months ago i decided to take advantage of the gym at work to try to shed some weight. after a very strict elliptical machine workout program and eating better, i got down to about 225 lbs. i was relieved to be out of the 40" waist pants back down to a 38". i'd like to get down to a 34" waist soon. i have since moved and live in a hotel and eat out every meal, so i am about back to 231 lbs at last weigh in. i slacked off some, but am now getting serious about my running. i actually enjoy it, and have been going for a few miles a week.
the thing is: i go very slowly. i have ran a 2 mile fun-run on St. Patrick's Day in Manhattan, KS, followed by an Arbor Day 5-K, also in aggieville. i wasnt trying to win, i just want to compete. so that's what i did. i think i came in 318 out of 411 runners. last or next to last in my age group. was i embarrassed? nope. at least i was out there...
My next race is the "hottest half" 10-K in Dallas TX, on August 15th. i doubt i'll finish in the top 75%, but i don't care. the way i figure it, no matter how slow i frinish a race, i finished better than the thousands of people who didnt even enter the it, so something should be said for us slow pokes.
oh yeah, i got the nike+ chip for my ipod the other day, and it helped me run my fastest mile in 10 years : 10'14"... ha ha, told you "schraders go slow".
